About MTH Rehab
Dedicated to healing lives through compassionate, evidence-based care
Our Story
Twenty-five years ago, our founder sat in a treatment facility that felt more like a holding cell than a place of healing. The food was institutional, the therapy was one-size-fits-all, and the staff kept their distance. He made himself a promise: if he got through it, he would build the program he wished had existed.
That promise became MTH Rehab. Starting with just twelve beds on C Street in Petaluma, our founder poured his own recovery experience into every detail — from chef-prepared meals that actually nourish the brain to therapy modalities grounded in neuroscience rather than outdated doctrine. He hired clinicians who saw patients as whole people, not case numbers.
Today, MTH Rehab has grown to 68 beds and 146 staff members, but the founding principle remains unchanged: treatment should be something you would choose for someone you love. Over 22,100 patients later, that philosophy continues to challenge everything people assume about addiction care in Northern California.
Our Mission
At MTH Rehab, our mission is whole-person transformation. We reject the outdated belief that addiction treatment means isolating a single problem and hammering at it until it stops. Instead, we address the interconnected web of physical health, mental clarity, nutritional balance, and emotional resilience that sustains lasting recovery. Every patient who walks through our doors in Petaluma deserves a second chance — and a treatment plan built around who they actually are, not who their diagnosis says they should be.
Treatment Philosophy
Nutritional Psychiatry: Research confirms that gut health directly influences mood, cravings, and cognitive function. Our registered dietitians and psychiatrists collaborate on meal plans that repair the neurochemical damage caused by substance use — because you cannot think clearly on a depleted brain.
Neuroscience-Based Care: We use evidence from addiction neuroscience to design interventions that rewire reward pathways. From EMDR for trauma processing to targeted CBT protocols, every modality we employ is backed by peer-reviewed research, not tradition alone.
Strengths-Based Recovery: Unlike what many people hear about rehab, we do not focus on what is broken. We identify each patient's existing strengths — resilience, creativity, professional skills, family bonds — and build recovery plans that amplify those assets. You arrived here with more tools than you realize.
Our Team
Dr. Nathan Reeves, MD
Medical Director
Board-certified in addiction medicine and psychiatry, Dr. Reeves spent a decade in emergency medicine before dedicating his career to long-term recovery care. He oversees all medical detox protocols and medication-assisted treatment programs at MTH Rehab, integrating nutritional psychiatry into every patient's stabilization plan.
Carmen Delgado, LCSW
Clinical Director
With 18 years in behavioral health, Carmen leads our clinical team with a strengths-based approach that challenges the deficit-focused models she encountered early in her career. She specializes in trauma-focused CBT and family systems therapy, ensuring each patient's treatment addresses root causes rather than surface symptoms.
Kevin Okafor, LPC
Lead Therapist — Dual Diagnosis
Kevin holds certifications in both EMDR and equine-assisted therapy. His dual diagnosis work at MTH Rehab focuses on co-occurring anxiety, depression, and PTSD alongside substance use disorders. Patients describe his style as direct but deeply compassionate — he tells you the truth and then helps you handle it.
Dr. Angela Tran, PsyD
Director of Neuroscience Programs
A clinical psychologist with research credentials in addiction neuroscience from UC San Francisco, Dr. Tran designs MTH Rehab's evidence-based protocols. She translates complex brain science into practical, accessible interventions that patients can understand and apply in their daily recovery work.
Robert Halloway, CADC II
Peer Recovery Manager
Robert is himself a graduate of MTH Rehab's residential program. Now twelve years into his own recovery, he manages the peer support and alumni mentorship programs. His firsthand experience gives him credibility that no textbook can replicate, and he coordinates volunteer opportunities for graduates who want to give back.
